Nikko Carlson, an alumni and former Pi Lam brother who know is doing an apprenticeship with Starpoint Brewery in Carrboro won the hot dog eating contest at Pi lam Tuesday evening. "I love hot dogs and I love Hot Dogs & Brew," he said after eating ten hot dogs.
Robert Harrison, sophomore, philanthropy chair, political science major with a history minor organized the first annual hot dog eating contest. "I created this myself. I hope that the notoriety of the event will rise and we will have a larger turnout," he said. Pi Lam partnered with Hot Dogs & Brew, located on Franklin Street, who provided the hot dogs for the event. The money will go to Table Incorporated, a non-profit in Chapel Hill and Carrboro that fights elementary school hunger for kids that don't get to eat meals outside of school. They provide kids with dinner. Robert said they were also giving away UNC v. Duke and UNC v. State basketball tickets at the event. The event did not have as much turnout as Robert had hoped but he still expected to raise the same amount by selling hot dogs and T-shirts.
